  • « GTA Offline » instead of « GTA Online »: Rockstar Games is taking the game’s servers for old consoles offline.
  • If you want to continue playing « GTA Online », you have to upgrade.
  • The PS5 and Xbox Series version of « GTA 5 » is already in the starting blocks.

Hard to believe, but « GTA V » with the underworld sandbox Los Santos was released in 2013. Thanks to « GTA Online » the title is still a popular favorite.

Players who like to play the gangster epic online have to brace themselves for bad news. At least if you do this with aging hardware.

In a blog post, Rockstar Games has announced that the online servers of « GTA V » will soon be shutting down the juice for certain consoles.

Open world, but not for everyone

December 16, 2021 is the deadline: From then on, the online mode of « GTA V » for Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will be taken offline.

All online servers for the vintage console generation will be shut down in mid-December, and multiplayer mode will then no longer be available.

So if you want to continue playing, you should treat yourself to a newer console and use the remaining months to transfer your progress to a newer version. Because from the deadline it is no longer possible to save your old save.

Maybe a good reason to update to the PlayStation5 or Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games provides another reason to do so: On November 11th, a prettied version of « GTA V » will be released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

With this step, the publisher also explains the decision to release the old servers: they want to make room for the current-gen entry into the online gangster world.

Another measure: From September 16, the online services of « Max Payne 3 » and « LA Noire » for PS3 and Xbox 360 will also be offline.
