Looking for the best melee weapons in Starfield? Melee-only builds have always been a fun way to play Bethesda’s Fallout games, and the same goes for their latest RPG, Starfield. With numerous blades and other objects to strike your enemies scattered throughout the colonized systems, it can be difficult to know which ones are the best. In this guide, we will present the best melee weapons in Starfield, including what makes them so powerful and where to find them so that you can easily get your hands on them.
Starfield was worth the wait, right? Liam and Alice B discuss this question – and much more – in the video above.

Best Melee Weapons in Starfield
Below, you will find our list of the best melee weapons in Starfield:
1. UC Naval Cutlass
2. Tanto
3. Wakizashi
4. Syndicate Enforcer
5. The Last Priest
Even better, many of these weapons can be found early in your game. The first four can all be found after your first visits to Akila City and Neon, with only The Last Priest eluding you until later in the main story. Below, we will detail everything you need to know about each of these weapons, including how to obtain them.
1. UC Naval Cutlass
The UC Naval Cutlass is one of the first melee weapons you will get your hands on in Starfield, and it’s a respectable weapon early on. The UC Naval Cutlass deals 20 damage per hit, but its true strength comes from its ability to spawn with the Furious advantage. Furious is one of the best advantages for melee weapons as it adds additional damage with each consecutive hit. As mentioned, you should get your hands on a UC Naval Cutlass early in the main story of Starfield. In fact, you will be almost immediately tasked with eliminating a group of Spacers on Kreet, many of whom will use the UC Naval Cutlass. You can also purchase it from Rowland Arms, a weapon merchant located near the entrance of Akila City.
2. Tanto
The Tanto is a huge improvement over the UC Naval Cutlass, offering a massive 60 damage per hit. It also swings at a similar speed, so it’s simply a damage increase without compromise. It can also spawn with the advantage Med Theft, which gives human enemies a chance to drop additional medical packs when they die. You can purchase a basic Tanto from Rowland Arms near the entrance of Akila City. If you want to obtain a Tanto with better advantages, try eliminating the pirates of the Crimson Fleet and looting their bodies to hopefully get your hands on one.
3. Wakizashi
Another improvement, the Wakizashi is a katana that you can get your hands on fairly early in Starfield. It deals slightly more damage than the Tanto, making it an obvious upgrade as you progress through the story. To obtain the Wakizashi, head to Neon in the Volii system. There, you can go to Ebbside and enter Madame Sauvage’s to start the quest Audition. Inside, speak to Andrea and ask to join the Strikers. Andrea will take you to meet Briggs, who will then task you with acting against their rival gang, the Disciples. Complete this task, then return to Briggs to officially join the Strikers. This will give you access to Hatchet, a Strikers merchant who sells the Wakizashi weapon.
4. Syndicate Enforcer
The Syndicate Enforcer is a unique sword that you can obtain in Starfield, and it is the first unique melee weapon on this list. It has two advantages: Berserker, which allows it to deal more damage if you are not wearing any armor, and Lacerate, which gives it a chance to inflict a bleeding effect on your target with each hit. Since the Syndicate Enforcer is unique, it also makes it a bit harder to find. To find it, head to Neon and enter Ebbside. Then, find Frankie’s Grab + Go, a local shop, and steal Francesca Moore’s Seokguh Syndicate key card. Next, use the neighboring door to enter her side room and use the freezer door to find the Seokguh Syndicate hideout. Inside, go upstairs and use the air vents to find an emergency exit door, which you can open by shooting it with a gun or a laser cutter. Then, continue through the server room and head to the adjacent lab, where you will find a bright yellow container. The Syndicate Enforcer is hidden inside.
5. The Last Priest
The Last Priest is a unique version of the Va’Ruun Painblade, and it is the best melee weapon in Starfield. It deals 62 damage, similar to the Tanto and Syndicate Enforcer, but it also has the Elemental advantage. Elemental causes The Last Priest to randomly inflict corrosive, poison, radioactive, or incendiary damage with each hit, helping you exploit enemy weaknesses. To obtain The Last Priest, you need to reach the main mission « Unearthed » and choose to side with the Hunter. Then, the Hunter will offer you a quest called « Infinity’s End, » in which you will be asked to kill the Guardian Aquilus in the Sanctum Universum Church in New Atlantis. Complete this quest by either killing the Guardian or convince the Guardian to hide, then convince the Hunter that she is dead, and you will be rewarded with The Last Priest.
